Progress North 2012 hosted by Wakefield and District Housing

Friday 10 February 2012 9am-1pm

Description:

‘Progress – Leadership in Housing’ are a series of regional designed to be a forum for leadership, an opportunity for social housing’s leaders to learn from their peers, share ideas, network and discover good practice.

Progress North 2012, hosted by Kevin Dodd, Chief Executive of Wakefield and District Housing, is taking place on Friday 10 February from 9am-1pm.

The event is taking place at Wakefield and District Housing’s Head Office, and will include breakfast, presentations by Kevin Dodd and Michelle Reid, Chief Executive of TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service), facilitated round table discussions chaired by experts, and the opportunity to network over lunch.

Progress North 2012 will examine the theme ‘Reform or Revolution: The role of social housing in an inclusive society’.

The violent events witnessed across the country in August led many observers to question whether social housing could do more to nurture productive, inclusive communities.

Iain Duncan Smith placed the blamed on an out-dated welfare system, suggesting proposed reforms would combat intergenerational worklessness and ‘unproductive lives’ spent on benefits.
Progress North will consider the factors that led to August’s unrest and examine the potential impact of welfare reforms on the social housing landscape, encouraging progressive thinking through collaborative discussion and debate.
