JOHNSON & STARLEY HEATING AND VENTILATION SOLUTIONS PUT ENERGY EFFICIENCY FIRST

As a supplier to the installer, developer, private and social housing sectors Johnson & Starley has developed into one of the UK's leading suppliers of innovative heating and ventilation solutions. These 'Home Comfort Solutions' put energy efficiency first and are widely recognised by specifiers, users and installers alike for their quality, reliability, ease of installation, quiet operation and long life.

Today's emphasis on energy efficiency in the home has created a demand for heating and ventilation products that not only provide optimum comfort, but also are highly economic to run and suitable for the new build, replacement and refurbishment markets.

Amongst the latest company innovations is the Q-Vent HR 160 high efficiency heat recovery ventilation unit. SAP Appendix Q listed, it is rated at up to 95% efficient in heat recovery. It meets the demand for very high efficiency and this has been achieved with the inclusion of a counterflow heat exchanger. A commissioning panel allows infinitely variable air extract rates to be set accurately to give close control of air supply and extraction rates on both normal and boost settings. This is essential to provide the correct balance between heating and ventilation and the most efficient use of energy. Additional energy efficient operation has also been achieved with the inclusion of EC fan motors.

BMS system compatible, the Q-Vent HR 160 is a very significant addition to the existing range of Johnson & Starley heat recovery ventilation units. These also include the SAP Appendix Q Listed LE 155 and 250 Whole House Heat Recovery systems.
Stale, moist air is extracted from ‘wet’ rooms through grilles and it is passed across an aluminium plate heat exchanger to remove the heat. The residue is exhausted to atmosphere. Fresh filtered supply air is drawn across the heat exchanger, warmed by the retained heat and distributed to ‘dry’ rooms.

Decentralised extract ventilation requires the use of a continuously running extract fan in wet rooms. The new A1003 and E1004 energy efficient fans meet this requirement and also satisfy Building Regulations for this type of ventilation strategy. Both models are silent running three speed fans which are designed to run continuously and energy efficiently at one of a choice two lower speed settings, dependent upon installation requirements. Users can then boost the fan speed to maximum performance when required. The highly energy efficient E1004 is SAP Appendix Q Listed and is designed for wall and ceiling mounting.

Central extract ventilation systems include the CE300 Premier and CE180 Premier, with extract rates of 300m³/hr and 180 m³/hr. Units incorporate EC fan motors for energy efficiency and integral commissioning/balancing panel. The CE300 has multi spigots with integral balancing dampers. Again, both units are SAP Appendix Q Listed.

RenoXtra high efficiency combination condensing boiler range is available in 30kW and 37kW models. The boilers feature a gas saver module that provides additional system efficiency by re-cycling flue gas heat which would normally be expelled to the atmosphere. Virtually all the energy from the incoming gas supply is extracted and reclaimed energy is stored in the unit and used to pre-heat the incoming cold water. This result is extra domestic hot water (DHW) efficiency, lower gas consumption and reduced carbon emissions.

Johnson & Starley Warm Air Heaters are fully Part 'L' compliant and meet the latest Building Regulations. The ranges available include Economaire warm air heaters which, with careful management of flue gases and heat exchanger temperatures, provide highly accurate delivery of warmth to individual rooms to ± 0.1°C. As the system directly heats the air, warm up time is virtually immediate, and system efficiency is optimised.
