CORGI marks excellence in gas safety
Since its creation in 2000, CORGI Certification has become one of the highest accolades for gas installation businesses looking to prove their capabilities with a recognised quality mark
CORGI Certification assesses an organisation’s management systems for safe gas work, providing confidence that a business has systems in place to support the delivery of safe gas work. It also builds confidence in work managers who are employing certificated businesses and aids tenders.
The scheme is a strict UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited management and monitoring standard that meets European (BS EN45011) requirements, so gaining the accolade signifies high overall standards in the management of safe gas work.
On site and field-based assessments against British Standard EN 45011 ensures CORGI certificated businesses are the gold standard. Not only do recipients of this accreditation display the knowledge and mandatory qualifications required, they have also demonstrated correct business controls and procedures that are in place to carry out gas work effectively.
It is the only gas-specific certification of its kind providing an independent third party robust assessment against recognised standards, allowing businesses to demonstrate ‘best practice’ and ultimately ‘best value’ to clients and customers, recognised by the CORGI Certification and UKAS ‘Crown & Tick’ logos.
Among the many factors that the assessment focuses on are:
- Company profile
- Organisational structure
- Roles and responsibilities
- Effectiveness of roles
- Control of operating centres
- Public liability insurance cover
- Training records and qualifications (including management staff)
- Work records
- Quality control & supervision
- Control of contractors/subcontractors
- Technical support
- Procurement and provision of spare parts
- Essential equipment & materials to ensure safe gas work
- On–site assessment of gas work (including contractors)
- Complaints system
- Standards of service
- Warranties relating to gas work
Following re-branding and a review of the scheme, many new businesses are applying to become CORGI Certificated. CORGI Certification supports and develops businesses through delivery of CORGI work leads, tenders and local housing contracts with the support of its tender lead software and technical safety managers.
As the certification body CORGI cannot give consultancy to a business on how to meet the requirements, but it has arranged for a third party QMSA to provide seminars to those interested in improving business processes to meet the requirements of certification.
