Starter for summer
Marking the start of a bright summer, MWL launched a brand new contract for a brand new social landlord this month, with the organisation installing its very first windows for City South Housing Trust.
The work began on 2 June, the same day as the City South Housing Trust officially came into being, for the year-long programme of capital investment, which takes place in the districts of Hulme, Moss Side and Fallowfield. The schemes consist of uPVC window replacements to some 350 properties, and this is being delivered by their supply chain partner, “New Charter”, while around 1,300 homes will be getting new kitchens and bathrooms due to commence in July.
“This is the first programme of the new housing trust so the expectations are high,” said business development manager Elliot Ruse. “The programme poses quite a challenge to deliver in a tight time frame. MWL engaged with the local supply chain to ensure we can not only meet this challenge - but exceed the expectations.”
MWL secured the contract with City South through its successful involvement with the IMPACT Manchester framework. Indeed, it was one of the founding
partners of the organisation, which takes in several well-known contractors and also Manchester’s major RSLs and the city council.
This isn’t the only recent success gained courtesy of IMPACT. As one of the core partners, MWL enjoyed a slice of the prize at the Housing Excellence Awards, the prestigious event organised by Excel Publishing. At the fifth annual event, IMPACT
Manchester scooped the Partnering Scheme of the Year award.
Back in south Manchester, meanwhile, MWL will be looking to foster the ethos of IMPACT - and its award winning enterprise - by instilling more than just improvement works to people’s homes. It also aims to bring benefits to the community itself.
Working closely with the client, City South Housing Trust, MWL is putting together the finishing touches to a community action plan.
“The strategy is designed to address the specific issues within the community and ensure our community investment is focused in the right direction,” Ruse added. “We anticipate employment and training opportunities for all ages and we are working with City South to structure training and development for school leavers that will be sustainable beyond the life of the contract.”
