£10m Army housing refurbishment unveiled
The £10million refurbishment of the married soldiers' quarters in Chester was unveiled today.
The refurbishment of the Dale Barracks, is part of an £8.4billion overhaul of soldiers' accommodation, after Chief of the General Staff General Sir Richard Dannatt described some conditions as "appalling".
Sir Richard, 57, the Army's head, made the comment in June as part of a call for improved pay and conditions.
Of the 175 homes on site, 108 have been revamped with new kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, insulation, rewiring and replastering.
The barracks is one of a number of defence establishments that will be refurbished for the soldiers and their families.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence said £8.4billion is to be spent on all living accommodation over the next 10 years, including £3.4billion on new-build and upgraded accommodation.
