Beechwood blossoms in annual gardening competition

Green-fingered residents from a housing estate in Dundee have dug deep to scoop prizes in Sanctuary Scotland’s annual Beechwood Gardening Competition.

A number of residents from the Beechwood Estate have been tending to their gardens over the past months in a bid to win the top prize of £100 in B&Q vouchers.

Judging was carried out in July by Dave Patterson, contracts manager for T and N Gilmartin Ltd, and Bill Lambie, clerk of works for CD Environmental Design, and after much deliberation Rosalina Shannon of Hazelwood Close was announced as the lucky winner of the top prize.

The second prize of £50 in B&Q vouches went to runner-up Janette Mitchell of Maplewood Close, while £30 in vouchers was presented to third place resident Lena Burns and £20 in vouchers was awarded to Mary Barr who came fourth.

Prizes of £10 vouchers were also awarded to residents under the category headings of best kept lawn, best water feature, best plant pots and best feature garden.

Gordon Laurie, director of Sanctuary Scotland, said: “The event always proves popular with our residents and this year was no different. Their efforts not only made for a close competition but have helped continue to make Beechwood a beautiful and desirable place to live.”
