Bracknell Forest Homes launches community programme for young people
Bracknell Forest Homes launched its community development programme for young people with a day out at Oakwood Youth Challenge.
Twenty eight local youngsters aged between seven and 12 years old were given the opportunity to try out a whole range of activities ranging from climbing and abseiling to animal care.
The event was provided free by Bracknell Forest Homes to help keep young people entertained during the summer holiday. This is the second event of its kind this summer and has proved popular.
Bethany Nicholls, aged nine, said: “I mostly enjoyed the rock climbing. I had a really great day, met some new friends and would love to go again.”
Linda Wells, Housing and Community Services Director, said: “We are really keen to engage with young people in our community and to give them opportunities to try out challenging activities and meet new friends.
”Oakwood offers wonderful facilities for all ages and we are fortunate to have such an excellent centre on our doorstep.
“Our summer youth event marks the start of our commitment to young people in Bracknell Forest and we look forward to a continuing partnership with Oakwood and other supporters to provide more events in the future.”
Oakwood Youth Challenge based at Waterloo Road, Wokingham, is a residential outdoor pursuit centre dedicated to the development of local youth.
Sovereign South and West and Mears Projects (one of the major works contractors) also supported the event.
