British Gas wins fuel poverty contract in Wales
British Gas has been awarded the contract to manage the Welsh Assembly Government’s new Fuel Poverty Scheme.
The scheme has been designed specifically to target households that are vulnerable to fuel poverty and will offer an enhanced range of advice and support.
It is part of the action the Assembly Government is taking to eradicate fuel poverty in all households in Wales by 2018.
Betsy Bassis, managing director of British Gas Community Energy said:
“British Gas is delighted to have been selected to deliver the New Fuel Poverty Scheme for Wales after a rigorous tender period. We will be working with the Energy Savings Trust Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government to provide advice and practical measures to those who need it most.
“We will help the Assembly Government meet their target of eradicating fuel poverty in Wales by 2018, and build on the achievements delivered under the previous HEES programme, by making Welsh homes more energy efficient, providing lower fuel cost, and ensuring households receive the best possible advice on how to maximise their incomes.
“We will also be maximising the sustainable economic impact the New Fuel Poverty scheme has on communities in Wales by placing a heavy emphasis on long term local employment, training and partnerships to deliver new technologies.”
