Charity winner after Match of the Day

More than £400 was raised for charity as Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) lifted the Cup following a friendly football match at Chester FC’s ground.

Family and friends watched CDHT colleagues play a team from Nantwich Buildbase in the charity football match at the Deva Stadium.

CDHT won a hard fought full 90-minute game 5-2. Colleagues and family donated money to play and to watch the game, with all proceeds going to Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Phil Jones, CDHT director of property services, managed the CDHT team. He said: “All the training certainly paid off, as the crowd were treated to a competitive game. Thanks go to Chester FC for supporting the event in allowing us to use their fantastic facilities; many of the players had never played at a stadium on a proper pitch, so it was an honour. Thanks to everyone for supporting this fun event; the supporters, the players and match officials, who volunteered their time, helping to raise money for this great cause.”

The game was organised by Brian Potts, stores manager at Buildbase. He said: “This is the second annual charity football game; we hope to arrange some matches in the near future in which local businesses and interested teams can take part and play.”
