Christmas arsonist evicted and sent to prison
An arsonist who set fire to his own flat on Christmas Eve has been evicted from his Nottingham City Homes property and also sent to prison.
Michael Lindo, 44, of Argyle Court, Radford, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment for arson after setting fire to his flat on Christmas Eve last year.
The fire continued and progressed into the early hours of Christmas morning though nobody was injured.
The fire service later announced that the fire had been started deliberately, which prompted a police investigation. Mr Lindo turned himself into the police and was charged with arson with intent to endanger lives.
He was evicted from the property last month following police and community protection evidence.
Gill Moy, director of housing services at Nottingham City Homes, said: “This man not only endangered the lives of those living around him, he ruined the festive season for his fellow residents.”
“I hope his eviction and custodial sentence has helped local residents feel safer in their homes and confident that we will take action against the perpetrators of crime and anti-social behaviour.”
Richard Antcliff, head of neighbourhood enforcement for community protection, said; “The severity of the sentence highlights the seriousness of this case. Possession of the property was a given but we are just thankful no one was seriously hurt”.
