CIH welcomes Prime Minister’s pledge
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has welcomed the Prime Minister's pledge to deliver an additional 200,000 affordable homes as part of a forthcoming housing strategy.
Grainia Long, CIH interim chief executive, said: "We are really pleased to see senior government leadership responding to the scale of the housing challenge. There is still work to do to before the housing strategy is published to ensure that the detailed policies interact with each other in a coherent way. We are working with government on this and hope that the housing strategy will place emphasis on affordability for everyone, not just initiatives to help the few."
Speaking on the announcement on Right to Buy, Long continued: "We are really happy with the principle of enabling local authorities to use their assets to contribute to social mobility, meet aspirations and maintain housing supply, but implementation could be complex, and we would need to see the full detail of the measures so that we can discuss them with government."
