Dale & Valley is showing the way on domestic abuse

Staff at a Wear Valley Housing company have been learning more about helping victims of domestic abuse.

The workers at Dale & Valley Homes have been given pointers in helping people who reveal they are suffering from abuse.

Customers and stakeholders reviewing the way vulnerable customers were helped identified domestic abuse as a gap in people’s knowledge.

Dawn Patterson from Dale & Valley Homes said: “Domestic abuse is not something we deal with in house except to provide support, but the customers and stakeholders identified that staff dealing directly with customers needed to know more about where to find practical help with these issues.

“As a result we have had sessions with staff to make sure they know where to refer people to for help. Now, if customers reveal they are victims of domestic abuse, our front line staff will be able to point them in the right direction.

“We have also produced a leaflet for customers which explains about the different types of abuse and how to find help.”
