Kier Building Maintenance (KBM) West is celebrating a double success as two of its Sefton-based employees graduate from Liverpool John Moores University with high classifications.

Graham Ball and John Fitzgerald were sponsored through their BSc Hons quantity surveying degree by KBM West while gaining real life, hands-on experience working on various projects in the area.

KBM West is responsible for the maintenance and refurbishment of six One Vision Housing high-rise blocks of flats in the Bootle, Seaforth and Crosby areas, as well as building additional new structures to two of the existing blocks.

Fitzgerald has been involved with the Decent Homes internal refurbishment of three tower blocks in Seaforth, which has included installing new lifts, external cladding and gated community external works, while Ball has worked on the innovative Greenfields site, creating two further floors of penthouses to two of the four 10-storey blocks of flats in Bootle.

The learning programme allowed the pair to work on different elements of the project, under the assistance and guidance of two senior quantity surveyors dealing with site progress, valuations, subcontractors, measurement and other day to day activities.

“Working at KBM West on such a huge project helped us to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the construction industry whilst working with professionals on a number of different projects. It has been an invaluable experience to see a project progressing and to be involved from the start,” said Ball.

Ball and Fitzgerald will continue to work for KBM West.
