FHM North East is crowned a ‘Considerate Constructor’

Community regeneration specialist Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) North East has won two Considerate Constructors Awards for the way it manages community regeneration projects across the region.

The awards follow a series of thorough inspections of all successful sites by judges from the Considerate Constructors Scheme, who looked for evidence of strong partnership working with local communities, tenants and a positive approach to the environment.

This year more than 640 winners have been selected from some 8,500 eligible sites to win bronze, silver and gold awards. They are only given to the highest scoring 7.5 per cent of sites, which have completed in the previous year.

The news continues FHM’s parent company Keepmoat’s long standing successful links with the Considerate Constructors Scheme. Keepmoat was the first organisation to have more than 1,000 sites registered with the project since it was established in 1997.

David Mellor, managing director at FHM North East, said: “These awards recognise that it is not just about what we are doing as a company, but the way we are delivering and working with local communities and I am delighted that we have once again picked up two awards.

“These awards are a great boost for our staff who have worked tirelessly during the past year to ensure that we are indeed, a good neighbour and a Considerate Constructor. The ethos of the Considerate Constructors Scheme is something that Keepmoat and its companies strongly support.”

FHM’s site at High Church in Morpeth received a bronze award, which included the modernisation of 283 three bedroom semi-detached / terraced houses on behalf of social landlord Isos Housing, formerly known as Castle Morpeth Housing. The works included new kitchens, bathrooms, partial rewiring with heating upgrades.

Tina Drury, executive director of customer services at Isos Housing, said: "The work FHM have done for us on our Major Investment Programme in Morpeth has been first class, and they fully deserve this recognition for their sensitive attitude towards the communities where they work."

The other winning site was the work that FHM is undertaking to modernise 2,000 Grade II homes on the Byker Estate in Newcastle upon Tyne on behalf of Your Homes Newcastle. The scheme won a silver award and was particularly praised for high levels of good house keeping and used as a good example scheme for recent BSI (British Standards Institute) and NHBC (National House-Building Council) audits.

FHM works with public housing providers to develop housing solutions to meet their specific requirements including working with its partners to meet the key challenges around the reduction in public funding and addressing an ageing elderly population.
