Gallions’ green day goes down a treat
Around 150 people took part in an ‘environment day’ in Thamesmead town centre organised by a local social landlord and its partners.
Gallions Housing Association held its environmental day in conjunction with Trust Thamesmead and Tilfen Land and the event “went down a storm”, according to the organisers. In just under three years, they said that around 150 members of the public visited the event’s information point.
Here, they gained tips on how to save energy and be green as well as found out about local environmental events, such as future canal clean-ups, they could take part in.
Gallions’ mascot, Max the lion, was on hand to provide a little light entertainment for the kids whilst mum and dad took a look at what was on offer and chatted with staff.
Emma Turner, spokesperson for Gallions said: “It was great talking to so many residents. They showed such a keen interest in the local environment, it was really encouraging. The launch of our new green website and events like this is a step in the right direction; we’re giving them the tools that will enable them to do more.”
While Trust Thamesmead’s spokesperson, Julia Hickson added: “We want residents to take ownership and responsibility for their part of Thamesmead. The day was an ideal opportunity for us to promote that as well as our joint canal clean-ups throughout August with the Gallions funded Thames21 River Keeper.”
