Green light for £300m Chesterfield Waterside scheme
Plans for a £300million waterside 'urban village' on the edge of Chesterfield town centre have been approved by Chesterfield Borough Council.
The Chesterfield Waterside project is one of the largest regeneration projects in the UK and will comprise 1,500 homes as well as offices, restaurants, bars and shops on 60 acres of former industrial land.
The project includes a canal basin, making use of the River Rother and Chesterfield Canal and restoring the canal network to create a fully navigable route.
The plans are being led by Urbo, the regeneration arm of local businesses; Bolsterstone PLC and Arnold Laver Group working in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council, while the masterplan was prepared by How Planning and regeneration consultants, AECOM.
It is hoped construction work will begin in 2011 with a final completion date, though not definite, thought to be in around ten years.
