Green light for Thames Barrier

A development of 750 new homes on derelict land next to the Thames Barrier in London has been granted outline planning permission.

The London Borough of Newham have given the green light to Barrier Park East, which will include commercial and retail space, new public open space and a play area – with over 370 affordable homes and over 130 three- and four-bedroom homes for families.

The site will be developed by Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey, who have worked with architects Allies and Morrison.

The homes will be built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

A Section 106 agreement has yet to be finalised but construction could start before the end of this year. It is expected to take around five years to complete the development.
