Halewood youngsters clean up neighbourhood

Youngsters in Halewood have taken to the streets to help clean up their neighbourhood.

A group of seven children from the Torrington Drive area took part in a litterpick at a local park with help from Knowsley Housing Trust staff.

The day was organised by Torrington Drive Community Association, as part of the Love Where You Live campaign which has been launched by Keep Britain Tidy.

Volunteers filled 10 bin bags with rubbish.

Secretary of TDCA Gary See said: “Our local youngsters are fantastic at getting involved in community events and are always willing to help out.

“We hope that by getting them involved in clearing the area, they will grow up with a greater respect for their environment.”

Knowsley Housing Trust staff, including operational director of investment Steve Heverin, interim executive director of customers and communities Pat Hollingsworth, Halewood neighbourhood officer Andy Coulson and members of the customer involvement and social responsibility teams, joined the children in the clean-up.

KHT has partnered with KMBC to support the Love Where You Live campaign.

Steve Heverin said: “The children were really enthusiastic which was great to see. If we all make an effort to reduce litter, no matter how small, we can make a big difference.

“Everyone can do their bit to keep Knowsley tidy.”

The Love Where You Live campaign aims to encourage people to make where they live, work, and play the kind of places we really want to be and to inspire people to take action to reduce litter.
