Housing Corporation commission research

Leading real estate consultancy Savills will research the future of deliverable residential development land across England, The Housing Corporation has announced.

The research commissioned by the Housing Corporation, will aim to forecast the likely number of homes that might be brought to the market under different scenarios.

Steve Douglas, Housing Corporation Deputy Chief Executive explained:

"This research will give us a clearer picture of how many affordable homes are potentially deliverable across the country."

The announcement comes as the Corporation currently works towards its 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review. Savills research will support the long term forecasting of the number of homes that can be built in England on a regional and sub-regional basis until 2016.

Jim Ward, Director of Residential Research at Savills said:

" Delivery of more affordable housing depends increasingly on the financial viability of high volumes of residential and mixed use development for private sale. Our research is focusing on realistic expectations of delivery on the land available and its sensitivity to market conditions, market adjustment and the way in which policy is implemented."

The study is to be published in the spring.
