Housing elements of care White Paper welcomed
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has welcomed the publication of the social care White Paper and the emphasis it gives to housing and related support services.
"While we would like to see quicker progress on working to a consensus on how we build and fund effective care and support services, we are very pleased to see that the importance of housing and related support is acknowledged throughout the White Paper,” said Sarah Davis, the organisation’s senior policy and practice officer.
"It is critical that as a society we plan more effectively for the changes we face, and in particular that we build services that give individuals the greatest possible independence and allow them to continue as active members of society.
"Providing an attractive range of housing options, in attractive and accessible neighbourhoods is a significant foundation for everyone's well being. Adequate funding for adaptations of homes and new technologies will ensure we focus on preventing greater dependence and avoid more costly hospitalisation and residential care."
