KHT eco-scheme wins Green Apple award

Knowsley Housing Trust’s (KHT) Save Energy, Save Money scheme which helps people save on their energy bills and reduce their impact on the environment has picked up a ‘green’ award.

The project received a Green Apple Environment Award at a ceremony at the House of Commons.

It has been spearheaded by KHT’s social responsibility coordinator Anthony Jarvis, who was presented with the award. He said: “Save Energy, Save Money aims to give people more money in their household budget and to reduce the carbon emissions of KHT homes.

“This can be done through energy efficiency measures in the home and by making sure residents are not paying more than they should on the wrong tariff. If everyone makes a small change to how they use energy in the home, it can make a big difference to the environment and their pockets.”

The scheme has helped hundreds of residents on low incomes save on their energy bills and reducing carbon emissions in Knowsley by 224 tonnes annually.

It includes home energy audits, advice on different energy tariffs and switching tariffs and providers. KHT has so far carried out 260 home energy audits with a predicted average saving of £100.

Jarvis also works with local schools to help educate children about the changes they can make at home and school to save energy.

The awards, organised by the Green Organisation, are a national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities.
