Kids get footie fever in Sheffield

The football season may be over but it was game on for youngsters from Sheffield’s Shiregreen Estate, who took to an inflatable football pitch for a kick-about.

More than 25 kids from the estate turned up for a day of keepy-uppies, spot kicks and headers.

Held at The Hub - a local community centre sponsored by housing and care provider Sanctuary Group - the footie fun day was run by Sheffield Wednesday Football Club’s Community Programme.

Matt Bray, social inclusion officer for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, said: “Today has been a real success - it's great to see so many of the local children involved.

“As part of the community programme we want to tap into kids' love of sport and give them something constructive to do that gets them out of the house.”

Sanctuary’s project director, Colleen Eccles, added: “The Hub is a great, local venue which has been solely created with the community in mind. Thanks to SWFC for hosting the event and their continued support.”

The Hub, located at Hartley Brook School, provides a variety of courses and activities for all ages, from parenting support and financial inclusion workshops, to nail art and youth clubs.

Based at The Hub, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club will be hosting a range of activities, including football, throughout the summer months. To find out more, call 0114 2458673 or email hub@hartleybrook.sheffield.sch.uk.
