Kier Building Maintenance wins big at the Considerate Constructors Scheme awards

Kier Building Maintenance is celebrating after receiving three Considerate Constructors Scheme 2011 National Site Awards for Decent Homes improvements carried out across the country.

In Yorkshire, Kier Building Maintenance Hull won a Silver National Site Award for Decent Homes improvements carried out to 4,000 properties across the city on behalf of Hull City Council.

The company excelled in the eight categories of being considerate, environmentally friendly, clean, respectful, safe, responsible, accountable and a good neighbour and was praised for liaising with local residents to minimise disruption while work was carried out, ensuring surplus material was reused, carrying out inductions to ensure employees followed correct site conduct and its involvement in local charity events for Children in Need and Dove Hope Hospice.

In each of the eight sections of the Considerate Constructors Scheme Code it is possible to score between one and five points, with three indicating compliance. Kier Building Maintenance Hull’s score of 37.5 points out of a possible 40 means the site in Hull has officially been classed as an ‘exceptionally good site’.

Meanwhile Kier Building Maintenance South received awards in Islington and Greenwich, with both organisations winning Bronze. Kier Building Maintenance Islington received its award for Decent Homes improvements to properties in William Street, which were carried out on behalf of Islington Council and arm’s length management organisation Homes for Islington. Kier Building Maintenance Greenwich was recognised for Decent Homes work carried out across the borough on behalf of Greenwich Borough Council.

Kier Building Maintenance managing director, Peter Brynes, said: “We are extremely proud of these awards. We always strive to provide our customers and neighbours with the best possible service and we take our commitment to the Considerate Constructors Scheme extremely seriously. The programme adds value to the services we provide to our customers, residents and communities through simple principles of considerate practice.”

Considerate Constructors Scheme chairman, Robert Biggs, said: “The Scheme’s National Site Awards are an opportunity for us to recognise and reward the outstanding levels of performance witnessed by our monitors in 2010. I would like to take this opportunity to personally congratulate all of this year’s winners for their continued hard work in ever improving the working practices of UK sites.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme was established in 1997 and aims to improve the image of the construction industry. Sites are assessed under eight Considerate Constructors Scheme ‘Site Code of Considerate Practice’ categories including environment, cleanliness, a good neighbour, respectful, safe, responsible, considerate and accountable. These factors indicate a site is achieving a standard beyond statutory requirements.
