Kier wins the double
Kier Sheffield, the partnership set up between Kier Group and Sheffield City Council, is celebrating after winning the partnership and collaboration category, at the recent UK National Training Awards.
Having won the category at the Yorkshire and Humberside heat in September, Kier, in collaboration with Sheffield Homes and Community Training Services (CTS), took the overall award for its City Stewardship (CS) programme.
The 26-week CS programme is aimed at improving the prospects of disengaged young people by training and mentoring them on several community-based projects in Sheffield so they have a positive impact on their local community.
Kier Group also scooped the large employer category, beating such competition as supermarkets Morrison and Waitrose, the DVLA and other major household names.
The National Training Awards celebrate organisations and individuals that achieve outstanding business and personal success through investment in training.
Kier Building Maintenance head of HR, Martin Rooney, said: “The success of the programme would not have been possible without our partners in the project, and the fact that Kier picked up two awards is testimony to our commitment to developing our people.
“By improving the skills of disengaged young people, we are not only giving them a chance to play a more active role in society, but we are also managing to fulfill our recruitment and talent development objectives.
