Langley development in the running for design award

A Langley housing development has been shortlisted for a design award.

Rydal Gardens in Wood Street is in the running for the People’s Design Award, part of Rochdale Borough Council’s annual awards to recognise and reward good design within the borough.

The Riverside apartments, in the heart of Langley, re-housed tenants from nearby tower blocks, demolished last year.

Designed in consultation with tenants, the 24 apartments are occupied by social housing tenants aged 55 and over.

Alan Malley, Riverside’s regeneration project manager, said: “We think that the development should win the people’s design award, as residents were involved throughout the design and development process. The apartments are really well insulated and very energy efficient – saving money for tenants and helping the environment. Rydal Gardens forms part of our ongoing work to transform the Langley estate into a desirable place to live.”
