Leicester garages transformed into family homes

Seven derelict garage sites across Leicester are to be transformed to create much-needed affordable, family homes.

Demolition has already begun and the schemes, costing a total of almost £5.5million are due to be completed within 12 months.

East Midlands Housing (EMH), Leicester City Council and the Housing Corporation have provided funding.

Developer William Davis will build 43 houses, flats and bungalows on the land, which is currently overgrown and, in some instances, used by flytippers. The homes will be owned by EMH and managed by one of its subsidiaries, Foundation Housing Association (FHA).

There will be a mixture of two and four bedroom houses; two bedroom flats and a three-bedroom bungalow, the latter built with wheelchair access throughout.

They will be available for rent or shared ownership.
