Lovell to build Southampton regeneration schemes
Morgan Sindall Group’s affordable housing division Lovell has been chosen by Southampton City Council to deliver three regeneration schemes, together worth over £30million.
Lovell will work in partnership with social housing provider First Wessex to build more than 200 homes at three mixed tenure sites across the city. The new homes will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, meaning they will be 44 per cent more energy-efficient than homes built to current building regulations. Work at one site will also involve building seven new retail units to replace an existing shopping parade and relocating a children’s play area.
“The award of these schemes further develops our partnership with First Wessex, a relationship established when Lovell was appointed to its contractor framework last year,” says Paul Smith, chief executive of Morgan Sindall Group.
“The mixed tenure approach that First Wessex has chosen mirrors our view of how affordable housing schemes should be delivered. We look forward to working alongside them and Southampton City Council for the duration of the projects.”
Subject to planning permission, work on all three schemes is expected to begin early next year.
