Morrison honours apprentices
Repairs and maintenance provider Morrison has recently held its annual North East apprentice awards at a ceremony in Gateshead.
Morrison, which currently has 16 apprentices in the North East working on its contracts with The Gateshead Housing Company and East Durham Homes, presented the awards in recognition of its apprentices’ dedication and commitment over the past 12 months.
Awards were presented for apprentice of the year; mentor of the year and for 100 per cent attendance records.
The award for apprentice of the year went to Geoffrey Mulholland, an apprentice electrician from Gateshead, who achieved excellent assessments from both Morrison and his college lecturers at Newcastle College.
Mulholland, who has worked for Morrison for over two years, was commended by his teachers and Morrison mentor for his consistent high standards of workmanship both at work and college.
He said: “It was a really nice surprise to have been named Morrison North East’s apprentice of the year and it is fantastic to be recognised by the company in this way. I have really enjoyed the first two years of my apprenticeship with Morrison and look forward to completing my course and becoming a fully qualified electrician.”
Also presented with an award on the night was Ross Kyle, who was named mentor of the year. Kyle who is from Low Fell in Gateshead started at Morrison as an apprentice in 2004 and is now a fully qualified plumber, using his knowledge to train new apprentices.
Neil Dixon, partnering director, Morrison North East said: “Morrison has trained no less than 66 apprentices in the North East since 2004 and we are very proud that 95% of these are still with us today as fully qualified trades people. Apprenticeships are the lifeblood of our industry and we are thrilled to have been able to support so many people into the sector.”
