New £4m housing scheme for older people opens
A new £4m sheltered housing scheme of 37 purpose built apartments for older people has been officially opened in Eston by representatives from local housing provider Guinness Northern Counties and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
The scheme comprises 37 two bedroom apartments, all of which were snapped up before completion in June this year.
Each apartment consists of two bedrooms, a shower wet room with access from the hall and the master bedroom, lounge, fitted kitchen and a large hallway.
In addition to individual apartments, the scheme also includes extensive communal areas including a large lounge and a dining/activities room which can be divided, communal kitchen facilities, a conservatory, assisted bathroom and guest room. There are also extensive gardens to the front and rear of the scheme, as well as staff offices and a meeting room.
Built by Frank Haslam Milan, the building has achieved a BREEAM multi-residential rating of Very Good.
The development has been funded by Guinness Northern Counties & HCA grant of £2.2million.
Allan Ramsay, Guinness Northern Counties’ director of investment & regeneration, said: “Guinness Northern Counties is extremely proud of its new development at Moordale Court which provides a great standard of accommodation for our new customers. We're particularly grateful for the support of officers and members at Redcar and Cleveland Council, together with the financial backing of the Homes and Communities Agency, without which the development of the scheme would not have been possible. Having met a number of the residents, I know they're enjoying life in their new homes and we wish them all the best for the future.'
