New community group launched

A new community group has been launched in Willsbridge.

Eight community leaders joined in marking the launch of Willsbridge Community Group, which is supported by Jephson Homes Housing Association.

Led by Bitton Parish Council chair, Mike Thomas, the group will see Avon and Somerset Police, South Gloucestershire Council, and children’s support centre, Sure Start provide help and support sessions from the Jephson-owned bungalow at Ventura Farm.

Designed as a community drop-in centre for residents across Willsbridge, it is hoped the bungalow will act as a hub for neighbours to discuss local initiatives.

With sessions due to start in the spring, partners have revamped the bungalow inside and out, including repainting the hallway and meeting room.

Jonathan Williams, housing services officer at Jephson, said: “We’re proud to be able to support Willsbridge Community Group and their project to create a one-stop-shop for residents across Willsbridge.

“Working with partners means we can offer a broader range of services from one location, while strengthening our presence on local estates and increasing our profile as a champion for the community.”

The official launch follows a community open day in October last year, where residents were asked to put forward suggestions for the types of services they would like to see at the centre.
