New homes for ancient town in £2m development

A housing provider is set to deliver a multi-million pound development in the ancient market town of Ashby de la Zouch.

Futures Housing Group, a housing association which manages more than 9,100 homes in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire, is investing £2 million in the Leicestershire town.

The mixed development of houses and flats off Woodcock Way will provide homes for shared-ownership and “affordable” rents.

Alan Boucker, Futures’ director of development and investment, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to expand our property portfolio into North West Leicestershire.

“We’ve just completed a record-breaking year of development and have started the new financial year as we mean to go on, with many projects in the pipeline to benefit the business and even more customers.

“We have ambitious development plans to provide an additional 1,000 homes by 2020, and this includes new schemes between Ripley and Daventry.”

The one-, two- and three-bedroom properties on the site will be available through Futures and also through the group’s commercial development arm, Limehouse Developments.

Glyn Jones, director of housing at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: “We are very pleased that Futures Housing Group is investing in North West Leicestershire for the first time and welcome the additional 21 properties which will meet the housing needs of local people, including those who wish to buy or rent their home.”

Offering 12 shared-ownership properties and nine affordable rentals, the development follows the completion of Limehouse’s flagship development in Cavendish Road, Ilkeston.

The homes sit within the Knights Chase development, which is being built by Miller Homes.

Alastair Parsons, sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, added: "This is the first time we've worked alongside Futures Housing Group and the relationship could not have been better.

"Ashby de la Zouch is one of the most desirable locations in the East Midlands, and that's testament to the fact interest levels are already really high. The Knights Chase development is in a great location, close to many key amenities and we're really looking forward to welcoming a number of happy residents in the months to come."
