New Mediation Service for Liverpool housing

South Liverpool Housing (SLH) in partnership with Arena Housing and One Vision Housing has launched a new mediation service to resolve neighbourhood disputes.

Arena Housing, One Vision Housing and SLH have signed an agreement, which enables partners to mediate nuisance cases on behalf of each other to ensure customers receive a fast and impartial service.

SLH have facilitated a training programme to give staff the skills and confidence to mediate neighbour conflicts. The training involved learning about the nature of conflict management and developed skills to help people resolve disputes at an early stage before the situation gets out of control.

Sharon Marsh, SLH community safety manager, said: "It has long been recognised that mediation is an important tool in tackling cases of neighbour nuisance and restoring peace and quiet in the community. In mediation, it is the disputants themselves that come up with the solutions to resolve their issues, not the mediators. This can result in more sustainable agreements that provide real solutions that everyone can live with."

"Working in partnership is vital to deliver this service. The idea is simple but effective. Each organisation will receive mediation at a snip of the price and customers will benefit from an impartial service."

The service will be free and available to all tenants of SLH, Arena Housing and One Vision Housing.
