Rok gets top marks in health and safety

Rok, the maintenance and building services group, has passed an independent audit of its health and safety procedures by the British Safety Council (BSC) with top marks for all its businesses.

Following a comprehensive safety evaluation from auditors, Rok was given the highest five star rating for its Construction, Maintenance and Improvements operations across the UK.

Director of health, safety, environment and quality at Rok, Shaun Davis, said the company had started using the BSC audit system back in 2007 with the aim of having all its teams reach the highest levels by 2010.

“It is gratifying to set a target like this for the business and achieve it within a given time frame but we have always said this is just a part of our plan for continuous re-assessment and improvement of the behaviours and processes that keep our own and other people safe and healthy while we work.

“We are grateful to the BSC for the help and guidance we have been given and appreciate the close working relationship we have that helps us on our efforts to do the best we can to protect people in an industry with a notoriously poor record for preventing accidents.”

As well as being given the top rating, Rok was praised by the assessors for its commitment to improvement and training, for its open lines of communication and a culture that promoted safety and well being.

The BSC is one of the world’s leading health, safety and environmental organisations which offers a range of nationally and internationally recognised independent audits designed to measure compliance through to best practice.
