South Essex Homes has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff.

The ALMO, which manages over 6,000 council properties in Southend-on-Sea, was named in Stonewall’s annual Workplace Equality Index, a national benchmarking exercise that lists the top 100 gay-friendly employers.

The Index is Britain’s leading tool for employers to measure their efforts to tackle discrimination and to help create inclusive workplaces for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff.

Mike Gatrell, chief executive of South Essex Homes, said: “This is the first time South Essex Homes has been included on Stonewalls’s list of top employers and I am delighted that we have been recognised alongside much larger organisations as a leading employer. We have always been proactive in promoting equality for our tenants and staff and I hope this is the start of many more recognitions to come.”

The organisation was ranked in 65th place. The full results of the 2012 Stonewall Top Employers list were announced at an award ceremony in London last night.
