South Shields Decent Homes work gets underway
The first phase of major Decent Homes improvements to council homes of non-traditional construction in Horsley Hill, South Shields, started on 1 August.
It will see eight homes on Lincoln Road receive both external and internal works to remedy defects, modernise them and improve their thermal efficiency.
Tenants are being temporarily rehoused from the eight Tarran Newland homes for approximately twelve weeks while the work is being done to their homes. The works will be carried out by the company’s partner contractor Dunelm.
As well as the usual Decent Homes internal works such as new heating systems, rewiring, kitchens and sanitary ware, the homes are to have new, fully-insulated external skins fitted and new roofs with PV panels.
Mark Whittle, director of investment for South Tyneside Homes said:“We are delighted with the works to non-traditional homes that we have carried out in other parts of the borough, and I am confident that this programme will run equally as smoothly. I know that initially it is an upheaval for tenants but there is great customer care in place and we know from the finished product that they will be delighted with their new homes.”
