South Tyneside Homes achieves green standard

South Tyneside Homes is now one of 760,000 companies worldwide to have achieved a major environmental quality standard.

Following an in-depth inspection, the housing company’s recently established Environmental Management System has been awarded the ISO14001 accreditation, which helps companies meet their environmental goals and objectives.

The Environmental Management System will help South Tyneside Homes to continue the environmental improvements they are making in the borough. It also demonstrates their commitment to complying with current legislation.

Earlier this year the company introduced their green brand ‘Green Homes in Green Places’. It has also launched a green travel plan and produced a ‘Green Guide’ to show tenants how they can save money and be more environmentally friendly.

Chief executive Isobel Riley said: “Environmental issues are firmly at the forefront of South Tyneside Homes agenda. We are thrilled to receive this certification which is the result of a lot of hard work by our staff. It demonstrates our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and activities along with our role within the community.”
