'Stop notice' for Brent Cross scheme

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government John Denham has issued a 'stop notice' against the £4.5billion Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme.

The notice means that Denham now has more time to decide whether to call in the scheme for a public inquiry.

It comes just days after the Mayor of London Boris Johnson approved the plans.

Despite being approved by Barnet Council in November last year, developers of major strategic importance for the whole of London are referred to the mayor for scrutiny.

The project to create a new town centre around Cricklewood and Brent Cross will include 7,500 new homes as well as new schools and health facilities, a train and bus station, major improvements to highways and road junctions, six new bridges, cycle routes and open spaces.
