Tenant learning programme launches new qualification
The Chartered Institute of Housing's Active Learning for Residents (ALfR) programme has launched a new qualification which helps to boost the skills and influence of tenants and residents.
Through the ALfR programme, housing organisations can reward tenants who do valuable unpaid work in their communities - a great example of the 'Big Society' in action.
The Level 3 Award in Community Action in Housing enables residents who are actively engaged with their communities, for example through running a community centre or participating in a tenant advisory panel, to gain a qualification by accrediting the skills they develop through their community work. The qualification looks at how residents can be involved with a housing organisation, how this relates to community needs and how they can contribute to meeting those needs.
CIH chief executive, Sarah Webb, said: "I am proud that we are able to offer another qualification through the Active Learning for Residents' programme. The scheme rewards residents that engage with their communities - we need more tenants and residents to work closely with their landlords to make sure their homes and communities are great places to live".
