Wrekin Housing Trust helps cut tenants’ fuel bills

The Wrekin Housing Trust has teamed up with one of the country’s leading energy suppliers, a leading green support services company and the Government’s national affordable homes agency to reduce carbon emissions across its housing stock whilst helping its tenants reduce their fuel bills.

The Shropshire-based housing association joins EDF Energy, eaga, one of the largest providers of domestic energy solutions in Europe and the Tenant Services Authority, to send out energy efficient lightbulbs to all of its tenants in a bid to help them reduce their electricity bills whilst also helping to tackle climate change.

A total of around 44,000 light bulbs will be donated by EDF Energy and posted directly to the Trust’s tenants next month. Each household will receive four lightbulbs with a life span ten times longer and an energy usage 80 percent less than regular bulbs.

Speaking about the partnership, David Hall, head of asset management at The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: “Making our homes more energy efficient and supporting vulnerable people in doing this is one of our key priorities.”

“We are delighted to be joining up with the Tenant Services Authority, EDF Energy and eaga in ‘greening’ our housing stock and, at a time of rising energy prices, firmly believe this will help our tenants save money whilst at the same time meeting our own commitments of making our housing more environmentally sustainable.”

The Wrekin Housing Trust is one of the first housing associations to take part in the scheme, which aims to save 1.14 million tonnes of CO2 over a ten-year period, which equates to over 230,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
